The Domestic Transportation Specialist is a highly motivated individual responsible for overseeing the transportation operations for all Carter’s locations and 3rd parties to support any business needs across multi-channel business units.  

This role typically reports to the Sr. Manager, Domestic Transportation, and is based in our Stockbridge office.

70%: DOMESTIC TRANSPORTATION OPERATIONS

  • Develop and maintain new and existing operating processes and procedures, ensure implementation and provide feedback on opportunities for improvement
  • Oversee the operations and movement of all domestic shipments, ensuring flexible options with the most cost-efficient methods, as well as provide visibility and detailed record keeping at all times
  • Responsible for coordinating the on-time pickup of prepaid shipments, collaborating with internal team members to provide weekly tracking and forecasting, determining equipment needs for multiple carriers and communication to management on visibility
  • Lead the dispatching, coordinating, and reporting of all daily operations of dedicated drivers and leased equipment between facilities, including all Carter’s facilities as well as third parties
  • Manage and maintain lease agreements for trailer rental cost, rates, maintenance and repair cost with outside vendors and provide visibility reporting for internal partners
  • Possess the ability to make informed decisions on daily operations determining carrier options, equipment types, mode of transportation to include (but not limited to) OTR, intermodal, and parcel, as well as determine most cost efficient transportation method to support business needs
  • Manage the coordination of equipment needs to support peak planning for both Wholesale, Retail and eComm operations, provide data analysis and reporting, utilizing various tools and carrier resources
  • Oversee the set-up of new carriers in all internal/external systems, maintain various carrier system administrator access for new and existing users
  • Lead business reviews with external providers to discuss KPI metrics and strategy for new opportunities
  • Partner with external vendors and internal partners to troubleshoot issues, identify root cause, and create solutions
  • Validate and assign invoices for payment to finance, as needed

30% DATA ANALYTICS & COST MITIGATION

  • Lead data collection of all operations for reporting and visibility
  • Interpret network spending data to identify cost savings opportunities and make recommendations for improvements
  • Managing and reporting on transportation cost (cost per mile/truck/unit/carton) to stay within budget and report on annual savings
  • Engage 3rd party auditor and system to use data and identify cost improvement opportunities
  • Identify and mitigate any additional charges from all transportation providers

Must have:

  • 2+ years’ relevant experience in transportation, distribution, or supply chain, preferably in retail apparel
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field preferred
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships through excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills required. Must have demonstrated experience in effectively manipulating and analyzing large amounts of data from several sources to produce useable information
  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, with strong proficiency in Excel
  • Ability to lead operations functions with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently or within a team environment, show exceptional prioritization with strong attention to detail and a focus on being proactive, as well as an eagerness for leading and driving change 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal partners, customers, service providers, drivers, and management of all levels

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of trucking industry, and trailer leasing/maintenance requirements
  • General knowledge of WMOS/TMS systems, and use of external web applications for providers strongly preferred
  • General knowledge of Tableau or other data visualization tools strongly preferred
