Essential Job functions (Tasks, duties, and responsibilities most important to get the job done)
The Content Developer partners with creative, marketing, and eCommerce business stakeholders to build high-quality, scalable, and efficient solutions critical to operating content for our eCommerce website. They are part of a multicultural, global team which builds and operates the Carter's eCommerce website, app, marketing properties, and other digital touchpoints.
This team member is technically adept, self-driven, forward-thinking, curious, passionate, flexible, communicates clearly, and collaborates for results. This role may involve work focus/concentration on one or more areas of the website's User Interfaces and Core Services built using JavaScript.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Development (70%)
Design and develop React frontend solutions.
Participate in efforts to design content fragments to be leveraged by multiple parts of the website or app.
Actively participate through all phases of the project cycle from ideation to post-implementation stabilization.
Work with business and technical peers to define how best to meet requirements, balancing speed & robustness.
Build high-quality, maintainable code including 3rd party and Content platform integrations.
Assist in the maintenance of the codebase, unit tests, and related technical design docs and configurations.
Partner with QA and Cybersecurity to support testing activities i.e., integration, regression, and security testing.
Follow Carter's coding best practices, including secure coding.
Engage and collaborate with stakeholders via the Agile process, identifying and mitigating risks & issues as needed.
Maintain software velocity & quality for deliverables, holding oneself accountable to commitments.
Design and code eCommerce solution components that enable Carter's Product & UX strategy, scale well, are secure, and meet supported Consumer device standards, ensuring ADA compliance.
Assist in the incorporation of DevSecOps principles into the development ecosystem, partnering with peer areas.
Review code delivered by Third Party development firms, and provide pull request feedback and approvals.
Operational Support (30%)
Contribute to code and asset management, troubleshooting bugs within a complex, global code base.
Assist in Tier 3 support efforts to triage & resolve issues and prevent issues at the code & configuration level.
Comply with established policies and standards for Change management, incident management, and security.
Participate in the configuration & tuning of website and related code /software bundles & third-party integrations.
Function as back-up or hands-on during any high-volume time periods that occur frequently throughout the Retail calendar year (Easter/Holy Week, Back to School, Tax-Free, Labor Day, Black Friday, and December Holiday)
Availability to periodically work nights, weekends, or holidays as support issues and business needs demand, e.g., production deployments, scheduled on-call support / unscheduled emergency support.
Job requirements (minimum competencies required for job performance)
Extensive experience developing using React.js
Deep knowledge of Headless CMS Environments and custom component development
Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and related frameworks to design and build user-friendly interfaces is required.
Familiar with Responsive Design, CSS3, content development best practices, and the ability to translate design mockups and prototypes into working pages is required.
Experience is preferred in the following Extended Focus areas:
Caching/performance tuning, 3rd party APIs & Service integrations.
Headless Commerce on the SFCC platform e.g., Lightning Web Services, OCAPI, AWS.
Building responsive / multi-device User Interfaces following ADA standards, is preferred.
Experience integrating with Content Delivery Networks, Content Management, and Personalization, Tagging, and Search Optimization (e.g., Yottaa, Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Launch).
Working knowledge of DevSecOps and Site Reliability concepts.
Working knowledge of Build, Testing, Continuous Integration / Delivery & monitoring platforms.
Software delivery for consumer-facing digital solutions.
Experience working with 3rd party vendors for technology solution delivery.
Experience in debugging code at the server and/or client-sides, is required.
Capable of balancing technology ideals and business objectives, evaluating options and implications.
Flexible in the technologies to be used and willing to adapt to an evolving tech stack/development toolset.
Experience working in an agile environment (Scrum preferred) as part of a cross-functional team.
Prior Work Experience and Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience preferred
4+ years of web application development experience leveraging front-end JavaScript framework (i.e., React, JS, Angular, etc.).
3+ years experience in end-to-end development expertise from concept, design & development to stabilization, preferred.
2+ years experience in software development using Agile (Scrum and/or Kanban), preferred.
2+ years experience in delivering consumer or business-to-business digital technology solutions preferred.
1+ years experience with retail, apparel, and/or eCommerce preferred.
