How you will make an impact
The Sr. Director of Operations is a key strategic and operational leader responsible for the end-to-end performance of a high-volume, multi-channel, multi-shift distribution center. This role oversees all aspects of warehouse operations, inventory control, and safety and security across four operating shifts. Additionally, the role will oversee all facets of Carter's small parcel transportation operations. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, operational rigor, and a proven track record of driving results through people, process, and technology. This role report to the VP, GM of Braselton and typically manages 5-6 exempt direct reports with leadership oversight for approximately 850 to 1,200 non-exempt and 70 exempt indirect reports across the distribution center.
This role will drive a performance culture through engagement, accountability and modeling core values and behaviors that foster effective relationships throughout the organization. This fully onsite role is based in our Braselton DC with occasional need for night, weekend, and/or holiday hours. Occasional travel to our corporate office in Atlanta and other DCs in the network may be needed.
Operations (50%)
- Translate long range business plans into facility and operational strategies that facilitate actionable activities by the broader distribution center team.
- Build strong partnerships, across the enterprise, to ensure performance results meet expectations and are aligned with business needs.
- Drive ley performance indicator (KPI) metrics and reporting. Monitor key process indicators to track performance and facilitate improved productivity, service, or accuracy performance across the facility. Review analysis of activities, costs, operations and forecast data to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives.
- Lead budget preparation process with operations and coordinates with peers to ensure a cohesive financial plan is presented as needed.
- Support and provide resources to execute large capital projects or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Drive a culture that leads to a safe and secure environment for our associates. Will manage a team of safety and security leaders that actively engage associates to provide training, corrective measures, investigations, reporting and tracking of safety performance. Will own and manage business continuity plans for the distribution center.
- Ensure consistent, thorough and timely communication to team, peers, and senior leadership.
Small Parcel Transportation (25%)
- Oversee all facets of Carter’s ship to home and ship to store services. This is currently handled by a national parcel company with a contract that exceeds $60 million.
- Lead engagements, as a primary Carter’s representative, with parcel carrier(s) ensuring solid business relationships are maintained and fostered.
- Ensure internal business partners needs and requirements are understood and translated into service and/or cost requirements with carrier(s).
- Lead and manage cross-functional teams to ensure financial plans are in place as needed and ongoing analytics are performed to identify trends and cost drivers. Use this information to develop mitigation strategies and/or action plans to ensure service and cost targets are maintained.
- Drive analytics and reporting on volumes, costs, customer service, geographic densities, etc. for internal reporting and external benchmarking.
Inventory Control and Compliance (15%)
- Identify and lead implementation of processes related to regulatory compliance (Foreign Trade Zone, CTPAT certifications, etc.), inventory control, and inbound/outbound operations with Carter’s and/or external partners.
- Report and communicate inventory accuracy and issues at regular intervals to audiences that includes executive and hourly associates.
- Ensure all inventory control procedures and reports meet financial and regulatory requirements.
- Lead a compliance team focused on improving order accuracy, enforcing SOPs, and reducing customer chargebacks through consistent feedback.
Safety (10%)
- Provide strategic leadership for all safety programs and compliance initiatives.
- Champion a strong safety culture across the distribution center.
- Oversee all safety programs and compliance with OSHA, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Set strategic direction for safety initiatives, ensuring alignment with company and regulatory standards.
- Review safety performance metrics and partners with site leadership to drive continuous improvement
We’d love to hear from you if:
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, operations management or related field (master’s preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in distribution, logistics, or manufacturing
- Proven experience managing a 24/7 or multi-shift operation
- Deep knowledge of WMS, labor management systems, and inventory control processes
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead change and build high-performing teams
Preferred skills and experience:
- Prior experience in automated distribution center is preferred.
- Must be available to work in a multi-channel, multi-shift, high volume distribution environment.
- Experience with automation or mechanized fulfillment environments
- Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies
- Familiarity with OSHA reporting, incident investigation protocols, and business continuity planning
- Experience managing vendor relationships or third-party logistics (3PL) partnerships
- Strong collaboration skills across cross-functional teams (HR, IT, Supply Chain, etc.)
